Smashing Pumpkins

Post by rock and/or roll on Tue 09 Sep 2008, 9:23 pm

Don't think there's any surprise that I made this topic. [/smug]

So yeah, Smashing Pumpkins; awesome band that formed in the very late 80s. Consisted of Billy Corgan, James Iha, Darcy Wretzky (D'Arcy) and Jimmy Chamberlin as the original line-up. They disbanded in 2000, but reformed in 2006 and later recruited a new guitarist (Jeff Schroeder) and bassist (Ginger Reyes).

They've released six studio albums throughout their career (not including Machina II, which was released online). These are Gish, Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Adore, Machina: The Machines of God and Zeitgeist.

Billy Corgan was recently added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which I was so happy about. He's a truly talented lyricist and guitarist. Not to mention he has a pretty damn recognizable singing voice.

I really like Smashing Pumpkins.
i r pleased.
I'm trying to get my little brother to like them. I bought him Zeitgeist for his birthday -not really, I bought it for myself but gave it to him so wouldn't have to buy something else, he barely listens to the CD I gave him last year anyway.
They're just one of those bands that are huge -artistically speaking- one of those bands you just have to listen to.

I didn't know Billy was on the Walk of Fame. Good for him, I suppose. : )

It took me a while to warm up to Zeitgeist, I'd say. It's different to their earlier stuff, but that's to be expected given it's been a while since Billy and Jimmy have made an album as the Smashing Pumpkins.
I love (Come On) Let's Go, Bring the Light...
And For God and Country has an awesome bass line.

I've been listening to Siamese Dream quite a bit recently, and watching Vieuphoria. Their live electric version of Disarm is amazing.

Here's a pic of Billy when he was added to the Walk of Fame.

one of my favourite bands worship mikey kthx.

Although Billy Corgan seems to be in love with himself. xD But hey, who else would have an excuse to be in love with themselves? The man is a legend.

And I didn't know he's been put on the Walk of Fame!

When I first listened to Zeitgeist I thought it was crap and threw it away for a week or so, then I found myself uttering Tarantula one day and listened to it again and loved it.
I've always preferred their ''rougher'' songs to their ballads.
^__^

Btw, I really dislike the video for Tarantula.

My bad. LMFAOOO

And yeah, I've heard that Billy can be an ego-maniac.
But I still admire the guy. He's got a hell of a lot of talent.

And I didn't much like the video for Tarantula either.
It actually put me off the song to begin with, but the part where Billy shoots lasers from his eyes is pretty cool.

Does anyone know how Gish is pronounced?
hmmmm I pronounce it with a Guh sound, but then again I pronounced Siva as it's spelled and apparently it's pronounced Sheeva.

OMG they are so good.
I saw them at V fest last year.
It went off. Disarm was one of the best live songs I've ever heard. I wanted to meet Billy but couldn't :(

Just thought I'd post the news that Jimmy Chamberlin has left the band.
There's more info on their official site. (I can't remember which post it was in though)

Also, Ginger Reyes is pregnant. :]

They're releasing new music soon. The album's called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope and all the songs will be made available to download for free.
Also, they have a new drummer, Mike Byrne. He's the same age as me. LMFAOOO

I think of myself as a little bit of a Pumpkin n00b.

I mean, everything of theirs that I've ever heard, I've loved, but I'd be screwed if you asked me to tell you the song names, etc
